Month 2 Top Five
Roman just turned a whole two months old a few days ago, and it’s hard to believe how fast the time flies when you no longer sleep! He’s gotten much bigger, smarter, cuter, smiles more, and also demands more. You don’t want to mess with that baby when he’s hungry!
Here are the top five things that have kept us sane over the last month:
- The musical elephant from his Bright Starts 5-In-1 Your Way Ball Play Activity Gym.
Roman screams in terror every time we strap him in the car seat, unless he’s distracted by the singing elephant that I strapped to the car seat handle. He’s mesmerized by the flashing colors and music, and just stares at it in amazement. He only loves the elephant, however, in his car seat. When I put it in the actual activity mat it was made for, he cries to be taken out within minutes.
- His baby swing.
Logan hated the baby swing, and I half-expected Roman to as well, but he’s the opposite baby! The swing is the only thing that keeps him entertained when I need a break from him being attached to me all the time. The soothing side-to-side motion has soothed him to sleep many times when I’ve fallen asleep on the couch next to him, and now that he’s older, he just discovered the mirror and rotating animals mobile that hangs above the seat. He loves to chatter to himself and his “friends” as I refer to them. No one loves his own reflection more than this little guy!
- The white noise portable sound machine.
After many nights of almost passing out from lack of oxygen due to having to say “ssshhhh” in Roman’s ear for hours on end, I finally broke out the white noise machine and stuck it in his bassinet. It was recommended to me by a friend from college and let me say, it’s been a life saver. There are 4 different sounds it makes and you can put it on a timer for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or an hour. After each night feed, I turn on the ocean waves sound for an hour and he (usually) sleeps like a rock after that! Thank goodness we have the sound machine because the cats have decided it’s fun to yell “MEOW!” as soon as I’ve gotten the baby back to sleep.
- Ceiling fans.
Yet another way Roman differs from his older brother – while Logan was terrified of ceiling fans for the first few years of his life, Roman is obsessed with them. He spends most of the time at the dinner table staring up at the fan, and when I lay him in the middle of our bed he stares up at the fan and talks to it. I also consider the fan one of his “friends.”
- Logan.
Alright, you can’t go out and purchase this one. I don’t know what I would do without my sweet 7-year-old who adores his baby brother. He sings to him, tickles him, talks to him, tries to pick him up, and loves to cuddle with him in bed. He begs me all the time to let the baby sleep in his room, but I don’t think he’d actually appreciate being woken up every 3-4 hours. He’s one of the only people that can cheer Roman up when he starts getting fussy, and one of the only people Roman gets excited to see in the mornings when he’s grumpy and hungry.
