Month 3 Top Five

Here are my top picks for the third month of mommyhood!

  1. Bouncer chair

This was something I had purchased with Logan that I didn’t think I would need with Roman, but I forgot how easy it is to move from room to room so he can watch while I do things. He always cries for attention the second I sit down to eat dinner, but is too small for a high chair, so the bouncer chair is perfect to set up between us while we eat. As much as I love cuddling him, I’m getting pretty tired of attempting to eat with one hand and spilling food on him! With the help of the bouncer chair, he loves being part of the dinner routine.

I bought one used for $15 and it vibrates and plays music!

2. The Crib

Roman just started taking naps in his crib (which I’ll move him into around 6 months), and he loves it! The mattress is a lot more comfortable than his bassinet, and he sleeps more peacefully in the nursery where I can lock him away from noises from his big brother and fur brothers Rawj and Meowgi (who I catch over and over again trying to steal his bed). It’s the first step of independence for my little guy, and I’m torn between being proud of him and being sad that he’ll eventually sleep in his own room.

Using the crib also forced us to buy a baby monitor – if only I can learn to use it without sitting there staring at the screen the entire time!

3. Sophie The Giraffe

I was given a Sophie the Giraffe teething toy as a baby shower gift, and honestly it seemed like just an expensive, boring chew toy. Boy was I wrong! This little giraffe has been a miracle worker during Roman’s early teething stage! Since he’s completely rejected all pacifiers, and has a hard time holding the cold gel teething rings, Sophie has been one of his favorite things right now! He loves gnawing on all the different parts, especially shoving her whole head into his mouth. It instantly calms him.

4. “The Wonder Weeks” iPhone app

I had never heard of Wonder Weeks when Logan was an infant, but it seems to be super popular right now. I ended up buying the mobile app, and I have enjoyed it immensely! It tells you when each “leap” (periods of major development and growth) should occur, what signs to watch out for, and what skills the baby is mastering. It makes the periods of fussiness and lack of sleep more manageable because I can better appreciate the skills he’s learning and milestones he’s approaching. We are just finishing Leap 3, which has been the most intense one so far, but I’m excited to see him work on his vocal development and physical abilities as he moves in more fluid motions and less like a malfunctioning robot.

5. Mirrors

No one loves Roman more than Roman himself, which actually is a pretty great life skill to have. One of his favorite activities is to talk to himself in mirrors (one on his swing, one on his activity mat, the huge mirror in our living room, in the car, or even just my phone camera). He gets pretty confused and excited when he sees me in the mirror with him, and it’s pretty funny to listen to him “yell” at himself in the mirror when he’s all done with that baby.
